WINSC AGM in Hobart:
I was pleasantly surprised to have several industry people present at our AGM which was held on the Friday 2nd November at the Seafood Training Tasmania training rooms at 2A Gladstone Street, Hobart. Thank you for taking the time to attend given that most of you had been in Hobart for the whole week for Seafood Directions.
WINSC are very grateful to Seafood Training Tasmania for the generous offer to use these rooms for both our Board Meeting and AGM and also to Karen, in the office who organised our morning and afternoon teas. Thank you Rory and Karen, your efforts were very much appreciated.
Our guest speakers at the AGM were Tara Francis and Hilary Revill. Tara, from Relationships Australia in Mackay, Queensland presented packages to all attendees while outlining opportunities that seafood industry people have for advise, counselling and literature to assist with pressures on relationships relative to the impacts of rezoning, restructuring and displacement from the industry. This information was well received and I thank Tara and her organisation for making this available to us.
Hilary Revill, from DPI Tasmania, shared her story with us of her journey from working in the UK in fisheries there to her experiences with fisherman in her efforts to collect data in the Lobster, Crab and Scallops fisheries of Tasmania. Hilary is one of very few women working in this area of fisheries. Her story was very interesting and entertaining. Many grass roots fishers could relate to these stories.
Each guest speaker received a small presentation pack of Bundaberg Rum Fudge.
