Donna Wells

I have been involved in the seafood industry for 17 years working first in a partnership and later in a self-employed role. Before this, I have been employed in the fishing industry in many different areas and levels, from cleaning and factory work, deckhand, sales and admin and government/industry groups and initiatives to running my own business.
I keep an office in the Sanford Building at Port Nelson. It’s right at the heart of the fishing industry in Nelson. My background is in office administration and I have a great love of traveling and seafood – so my work complements that.
In my role as Managing Director of Finestkind, I trade fishing quota, export fish and promote seafood at selected national events. My work involves much trans-Tasman involvement and being a part of WINSC has assisted and helped my business grow.
In 2008, I was invited to join the FRDC/WAFIC delegation that toured Europe and I enjoyed the amazing experience and insight into the international world of seafood, traveling to Spain, France, Belgium and England.
I have very much enjoyed my role as WINSC Director-at-Large. It has been an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge of the Australian seafood industry and it’s participants. I appreciate being part of a “live” network, that spans several decades in ages and holds such a wealth of experience and knowledge in its membership.
At present I am studying toward a NZ SITO Seafood qualification and am pleased and proud to be a part of the success story that is the fishing industry of New Zealand.
