Scholarship FAQs
Q: Who can apply for the FRDC WINSC Professional Development Scholarship?
A: Female WINSC full members.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate:
· a personal commitment to sustainable fishing and/or aquaculture and to the role of women in the fishing and seafood industry beyond the period of study;
· potential to achieve and deliver benefits to the fishing and seafood industry;
· Provision of leadership to industry bodies; and
· Ability and willingness to share skills and knowledge.
NB: Scholarships are available from the 2009 calendar year.
Q: What is the scholarship granted for?
A: The scholarship will be granted for:
· Study fees
· Travel and accommodation and registration for industry event attendance.; or
· Study tour
Q: What do I have to do to apply for the FRDC/WINSC Professional Development Scholarship?
A: To be considered you need to:
Submit a detailed proposal on the official application form which includes:
· Where and when the professional development activity will take place.
· The intended outcomes of the professional development activity.
· A budget of expected costs to be incurred and the final figure applied for.
· Evidence that the scholarship would be of benefit to the applicant, WINSC and the seafood industry.
· Complete the Applicant Details form.
· Declaration form addressing the headings provided.
· Complete Application – Justification & Supportive Information form.
NB: 1 page (max); Dot points acceptable
A referee report needs to be obtained and submitted with your application.

· Applicants are solely responsible for completing and lodging applications on time.
· Applications closing date 1st october 2009
· Incomplete applications will not be considered.
· If posting application, the original plus two copies need to be sent.
Q: Who can I contact if I have a query about my FRDC WINSC Professional Development Scholarship application?

Q: How will my application be assessed?
A: An Assessment Panel will review all applications on the merit of the written material provided. No interviews will be conducted but referees may be contacted.
Q: How will I find out about the result of my application for the FRDC WINSC Professional Development Scholarship?
A: When the selection process has been finalised, a letter advising the result of the application will be sent to all applicants within one month of closing date.
Successful applicants of the WINSC/FRDC Professional Development Scholarship must acquit evidence at the conclusion of professional development activity for which the grant was approved and are obliged to meet any or all of the following requirements on behalf of WINSC:
· Submit a maximum 2,000 word report to the WINSC Board within one month of the completion of their Scholarship. This report should detail the experiences incurred during the project. This evidence must be consistent with the original application and is required for auditing purposes and contain copies of all receipts.
· Produce an article of appropriate content for submission to the Fisheries Research and Development News (FISH) with minimal editing required from the WINSC Board.
· At the discretion of WINSC, present at the WINSC National Conference on the project and its application to the seafood industry in Australia.
· Meet all media obligations that may be set out by the WINSC Board to promote the FRDC WINSC Professional Development Scholarship, WINSC membership and the seafood industry in Australia.
· Evidence of expenditure toward agreed development activity. Unspent scholarship funds will be returned to WINSC.
